Apple WWDC Dead Technology Day
I'll be going to Apple's WWDC (WorldWide Developers' Conference) in a couple weeks. I didn't go last year since it was mostly a Tiger rehash (except for that Intel bombshell they dropped on the first day), but this time I'm looking forward to hearing about all of the new stuff coming to a computer near me in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
One thing that I've always thought would be fun at WWDC would be to get people to coordinate their wardrobes for one day of the conference and wear T-shirts from various dead technologies that Apple has come out with in the past, advocated, and since abandoned.
Now, I have to admit, when I was at Apple, I worked on OpenDoc, one of those same dead technologies, so I don't personally escape unscathed.
Unfortunately (actually, fortunately) this idea has recently become a bit disingenuous, as Apple's recent track record for not killing technologies has been downright stellar. However, for those of us with a number of dead technology T-shirts from the less-happy days, I still think it's an idea with some potential, so...
I hereby declare that Thrusday, August 10 will be Dead Technology Day at this year's WWDC.
There, since so many people read my blog, I'm sure this will catch fire.

Hey, why don't they bring back MultiFinder? That was cool. And Font/DA Mover. I miss that little truck.
BTW, are you using Quicksilver? I can't function without it. And I've taken to using PathFinder instead of the Finder, though it's far from perfect.
I'm in the LaunchBar camp. I bought a copy of it long ago before I heard of Quicksilver, and having looked at QS briefly one time in the past, didn't care as much for its form(s) of presentation as LaunchBar's. Still, I encourage everyone I can to take a look at one or both of those apps. I've heard there are a couple similar apps on Windows, and I should look into them as I have to use Windows more these days during my Lightroom coding work.
I also looked at PathFinder briefly, but it seemed to have a bit more going on than I wanted to have around for my main file system browser app. (I guess I must be becoming more of a Luddite than I realized...) I do hope that Apple makes some progress in the Finder in Leopard, however. It's sorely needing some attention.
Hi Troy and Melissa,
Have seen your names in my Photoshop app for years and now I see them in the Lightroom app I downloaded. Anyway, hello from a fellow Edmarkian. Hope you're both doing well.
